The José Valdés Math Institute™

Middle-School Enrichment Program

Who should participate?

The José Valdés Math Institute™ Middle-School Enrichment Program is primarily geared toward students who are proficient in mathematics and who are currently in grades 5 to 7.  The Enrichment Program is designed to increase math skill levels and to prepare students for taking accelerated, more complex STEM courses before entering high school.

About the curriculum

The accelerated math program is specialized for students who need to learn at a higher level compared to a traditional classroom.  It allows students who need an extra challenge in the classroom to stay engaged and interested in learning.  This program focuses on specific math subject areas to enable students to excel in and operate at a higher level.

Tuition Cost

If you qualify, there is no cost to your family if your child currently attends one of our partnering school districts. If you are interested in having your child attend our Middle-School Enrichment Program, then please contact your school/district staff and ask if they are participating with the José Valdés Math Foundation.  If the answer is yes, then please ask your school/district staff to include your child on their official summer list.  If the answer is no, then you can either pay the full 2024 tuition amount ($1,475 per student) or apply for a 2024 Valdés Math scholarship. There are discounts available for siblings and for early registration.  Please contact us for more information.

  • Valdés Math receives financial support from participating school districts, local governments, foundations, corporations, and individual donors to enable students from low-income families to participate in our summer math program.

    Scholarships are awarded to students whose families meet low-income guidelines. Participation is also dependent on the number of available seats. Participating school districts are allocated seats in our summer classrooms for their respective students, and, should there be any open seats, we will allocate each available seat to one of our eligible families. If seats are not available, then scholarship students are placed on a class waiting list until seats become available, at which time we will offer those seats to our eligible families. Thus, summer placement is predicated on classroom seat availability.

    Scholarship opportunities are on a first-come, first-served basis. To request additional information, please contact Mr. Bob Turner, the Director of Educational Programs, at: bob.turner@josevaldesmath.org

  • 1. 90% refund for written requests submitted at or more than 30 days before the start of the program. Please note that an administrative fee of 10% will be automatically deducted;

    2. 50% refund for written requests submitted less than 30 days prior to the program start date;

    3. No refunds once the program begins.

    All refunds are processed in the form of checks and are mailed out within four (4) to six (6) weeks upon receipt of a written refund request.

    To request a refund, please contact Mr. Bob Turner, the Director of Educational Programs, at: bob.turner@josevaldesmath.org

  • Yes, your child will need to take a placement test prior to the start of the 2024 Middle-School Enrichment Program. All students, both new and returning, are required to take a placement test in order to determine/confirm enrollment in the appropriate summer course. Once the online registration has been received, the parent/guardian will be contacted by our staff as to the specific time/date of any upcoming placement testing. A student cannot “fail” these tests, since they are for placement purposes only.

  • 1. For district-supported students, the Valdés Math office sends out official summer transcripts to each respective school district.

    2. For non-district-supported students, the Valdés Math office sends out official summer transcripts to each respective school of record. For any reason, before the end of the summer program, the parent/guardian may contact the Valdés Math office to request a “hold” or “stop” to prevent any official summer transcript from being sent.

    NOTE: For security reasons, official summer transcripts are never given to students, and they are neither mailed nor emailed to parents/guardians.

    If you have any questions or concerns about this official transcript policy, then please email Mr. Bob Turner, the Director of Educational Programs, at: bob.turner@josevaldesmath.org

  • That depends on your school or district. It is up to the parent/guardian to follow through on math placement. We will assist if asked.

    For middle schools, most of our recommendations have been accepted for class placement. Awarding credit is based on the internal policy of the school and/or district.
