During summer we offer two programs
The José Valdés Math Foundation provides support to students who are looking to improve their math skills. In addition to a tutoring program, we offer two programs during the summer. Our two programs are the Math Academy and the Math Institute. Both provide either six or seven weeks of math instruction to students in both Santa Clara County and San Mateo County. Our summer math classes are the equivalent of a full academic year of instruction.
The José Valdés Math Institute
The Valdés Math Institute, as a tuition-based program, is primarily for students who are currently doing well in mathematics and who are currently in AT LEAST the 5th grade in their regular schools. The Institute Program is designed to increase math skill levels and to prepare students for taking accelerated, more complex STEM courses by the time they graduate from high school.
Each summer, we serve approximately 100 to 200 Institute students. For our Institute Program, we accept students from multiple schools and school districts throughout Santa Clara County and San Mateo County.
In addition to more one-on-one attention from our State-certified teachers, students in the Institute Program will receive credit for their completed mathematics courses. The curriculum is accredited through the Western Association of Colleges and Schools (WASC) and aligns with the State of California’s Common Core Standards.
The José Valdés Math Academy
The Valdés Math Academy, as a tuition-free program, serves elementary and middle-school students who are struggling in mathematics and find themselves one or more grade levels behind in their overall math skills compared to their peers. Our summer curriculum is designed to help students from low-income families to regain their math skills and to improve their overall math proficiency by the end of the seven-week program.
Each summer, we serve approximately 300 to 400 Academy students. For our Academy Program, we recruit students exclusively from among our partnering school districts:
Alum Rock Union Elementary School District (ARUESD)
Evergreen Elementary School District (EESD)
La Honda−Pescadero Unified School District (LHPUSD)
Mountain View-Whisman School District (MVWSD)
Oak Grove School District (OGSD)
